Fed funds futures traders see the Fed holding rates steady at its October 27 to October 28 meeting and are pricing in 92% odds of a hike in December. GBP/USD: The pound edged lower on Monday as renewed demand for the US dollar weighed on the pound. The greenback strengthened as US Treasury yields and global bond yields resumed their upward momentum, while improving sentiment toward technology and artificial intelligence-related stocks supported broader risk appetite. The combination of higher yields and renewed dollar buying kept sterling under pressure, with investors turning their attention to upcoming UK economic releases for fresh clues on the Bank of England’s monetary policy outlook. The UK labour-market report, including unemployment and earnings data, is due on Tuesday, followed by consumer price inflation figures on Wednesday. These releases are likely to play a crucial role in shaping expectations for the Bank of England’s next policy decision. Meanwhile, US crude futures rose 1.7% to $103.09 a barrel as the Middle East conflict drove up global energy costs. Canada’s annual inflation rate increased to 3.1% in September from 3.0% in August, below market expectations of 3.2%, while a Bank of Canada survey showed that consumers’ inflation expectations over the next five years had risen.Immediate resistance can be seen at 1.4158(SMA 20), an upside break can trigger rise towards 1.4167 (38.2%fib).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 1.4060(50%fib), a break below could take the pair towards 1.4000(Psychological level).
USD /JPY : The US dollar traded in a narrow range against the Japanese yen on Monday as investors assessed comments from Bank of Japan Governor Kazuo Ueda. The central bank’s two-day meeting concludes on October 30, with policymakers expected to remain cautious about raising rates again following September’s increase as they assess the impact of previous tightening on financial conditions.
