Currency Summaries
EUR/USD : ?The euro dipped on Monday ahead of a busy week of central bank meetings.Five major central banks will announce policy decisions later in the week. The US Federal Reserve, the European Central Bank and the Bank of Japan are all expected to hold rates steady despite inflation pressures, while leaving the door ajar for December hikes.Investors will focus on any clues about the rate outlook, as a potential AI-driven selloff in US stocks could tilt the Fed towards a more dovish stance. The euro had lost ground last week as a selloff in French government bonds drove the country's debt risk premium to its highest level since the 2011 sovereign debt crisis, reigniting concerns about renewed financial stress across the euro zone. Immediate resistance can be seen at 1.1218(SMA 20), an upside break can trigger rise towards 1.12990(38.2%fib).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 1.1156(23.6%fib), a break below could take the pair towards 1.1119(Lower BB).
GBP/USD: The pound eased against dollar on Monday ahead of Wednesday's ?budget announcement in a week packed with central bank meetings. British finance minister John Healey looks ?set to announce a cautious first budget, prioritising stability in the bond market over the ?kind of big spending moves that Andy Burnham talked about when he became prime minister. The pound has drawn support largely from easing concerns over the UK's debt risk premium, making investors less concerned ?that Britain could face the kind of market pressure seen in France. Meanwhile, investors ?will closely ?watch the outcome of central bank meetings later ?this week, with policy decisions due from the Federal Reserve, European Central Bank, Bank of Japan, Reserve Bank ?of New Zealand and Bank of Canada. Immediate resistance can be seen at 1.3403(38.2%fib), an upside break can trigger rise towards 1.34209(Oct 22nd high). On the downside, immediate support is seen at 1.3309(38.2%fib), a break below could take the pair towards1.3289 (SMA 20).
USD/CAD : The Canadian dollar strengthened against its US counterpart on Monday, extending its gains for a seventh consecutive day, although the advance remained limited ahead of key interest rate decisions from the Federal Reserve and the Bank of Canada this week. The BoC is widely expected to raise its benchmark interest rate on Wednesday for the first time since July 2023, as a pre-emptive measure to prevent energy-driven inflation from spreading across the broader economy. Markets are pricing in an approximately 80% chance of a 25-basis-point increase, which would lift the policy rate to 2.50%.Meanwhile, Fed policymakers are expected to leave US interest rates unchanged on Wednesday. However, persistent inflation concerns have fuelled expectations that the pause in rate hikes may be short-lived. Immediate resistance can be seen at 1.4030(50%fib), an upside break can trigger rise towards 1.4148 (38.2%fib).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 1.3970 (Lower BB), a break below could take the pair towards 13918 (61.8%fib).
USD /JPY : The US dollar edged higher against the Japanese yen on Monday as investors prepared for a busy week of major central bank policy decisions and key economic data releases. Five major central banks are scheduled to review their monetary policy settings, with the Federal Reserve, European Central Bank (ECB) and Bank of Japan (BoJ) widely expected to keep interest rates unchanged. However, markets will closely scrutinize policymakers' statements for clues about potential rate hikes in December, as persistent inflationary pressures continue to shape the global monetary policy outlook. The Bank of Japan is expected to maintain its policy rate at 1.25% at the conclusion of its two-day meeting on Friday. Holding rates steady would give policymakers additional time to assess the effects of previous rate increases on lending conditions and economic activity before considering further monetary tightening. Immediate resistance can be seen at 158.00(Psychological level), an upside break can trigger rise towards 158.48(50%fib).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 156.46(SMA 20) a break below could take the pair towards 156.13(61.8%fib).
