Currency Summaries

EUR/USD : The euro edged lower against the US dollar on Thursday  as concerns over France’s deteriorating fiscal outlook and mounting public debt weighed on investor sentiment. The country’s widening budget deficit, political deadlock in Paris and the worst civil unrest in years have heightened uncertainty over France’s economic and political stability.Efforts to ease social tensions have made little progress, with trade unions reaffirming plans for a nationwide strike on November 5 to protest the rising cost of living and cuts to public services after talks with the government ended without a breakthrough. The continued unrest has added to pressure on the French government, raising concerns over its ability to control public debt and implement fiscal reforms..The euro down 0.3% at $1.1198. Immediate resistance can be seen at 1.1255(38.2%fib), an upside break can trigger rise towards 1.1228(Higher BB).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 1.1119(SMA20), a break below could take the pair towards 1.11315(23.6%fib).

GBP/USD: The pound edged higher on Thursday, supported by rising expectations of a Bank of England interest rate hike next month following stronger-than-expected UK inflation data. Consumer price inflation accelerated to 3.5% in September from 3.1% in August, according to the Office for National Statistics, while services inflation climbed to 3.7% from 3.4%, exceeding economists’ forecasts of 3.6%. The figures reinforced concerns over persistent inflationary pressures in the British economy. Money markets are pricing in at least three 25-basis-point rate hikes by April, with the first increase expected at the November 5 policy meeting. Investors are now turning their attention to the October 28 UK Autumn Budget and the upcoming Federal Reserve policy decision for further clues on the monetary policy outlook in Britain and the United States. Immediate resistance can be seen at 1.3407(38.2%fib), an upside break can trigger rise towards 1.3450(Higher BB).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 1.3354(Daily low), a break below could take the pair towards1.3290(38.2%fib).

USD/CAD : The Canadian dollar strengthened to a one-month high against its US counterpart on Thursday, supported by rising oil prices and a narrowing interest rate differential between Canada and the United States. The spread between Canadian and US two-year government bond yields narrowed by 11 basis points to around 141 basis points, providing additional support to the loonie.Oil prices climbed after Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia heightened concerns over potential disruptions to energy supplies from the Middle East, a key oil-exporting region. US crude futures rose 2.2% to $99.26 a barrel, benefiting the Canadian dollar given Canada's status as a major energy exporter.Investors are also awaiting Canada's August retail sales data, due Friday, with economists expecting a 1.3% rebound following a 0.7% decline in July. Meanwhile, markets are pricing in roughly a 75% probability that the Bank of Canada will raise its benchmark interest rate by 25 basis points to 2.50% next Wednesday.Immediate resistance can be seen at 1.4290 (50%fib), an upside break can trigger rise towards 1.4186 (38.2%fib).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 1.4003 (61.8%fib), a break below could take the pair towards 1.3967 (Lower BB).

USD /JPY : The US dollar slipped lower  against yen on Thursday  as investors sought safety amid fragile equity markets, elevated crude prices from the drawn-out war in the Middle East .Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino said on Wednesday that Japan’s underlying inflation was approaching the central bank’s 2% target, while financial conditions remained accommodative, signalling the possibility of further interest-rate hikes. The Bank of Japan lifted its policy rate to 1.25% last month, the highest level in 31 years, as policymakers focused on keeping underlying inflation from overshooting the central bank’s target. A majority of economists surveyed by Reuters expect the Bank of Japan to raise interest rates to 1.50% in December, following increases in June and September, signalling a faster pace of monetary tightening than the central bank’s earlier pattern of just one hike per year.Immediate resistance can be seen at 157.71(SMA20), an upside break can trigger rise towards 158.76(50%fib).On the downside, immediate support is seen at  156.44(SMA 20) a break below could take the pair towards 156.00(Psychological level ).
