Currency Forecast
EUR/USD : The euro edged lower against the US dollar on Thursday as investors began hunkering down ahead of a slew of central bank meetings next week, where hawkish holds are expected on interest rates in Japan, the US and Europe.French 10-year yields hit their highest since 2022 on Wednesday as weekend unrest across France, fuelled in part by cuts to public services, has highlighted how politically difficult it will be to bring budget deficits under control. The European Central Bank is expected to hold its benchmark rate at 2.5% next week, though a hike is all but priced in before the year's end. Markets have priced a hold in Tokyo, too, with the next hike — to 1.5% — expected early next year. The Federal Reserve is seen on hold in October, with the Fed funds rate window at 3.75-4%, but hiking in December. Immediate resistance can be seen at 1.1255(38.2%fib), an upside break can trigger rise towards 1.1228(Higher BB).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 1.1119(SMA20), a break below could take the pair towards 1.11315(23.6%fib).
GBP/USD: The pound edged higher on Thursday as the US dollar weakened, while rising oil prices heightened inflation concerns and investors awaited next week’s Federal Reserve meeting for clues on the monetary policy outlook. Persistent inflationary pressures, largely driven by elevated energy costs, have strengthened the case for tighter monetary policy, although Fed policymakers are expected to remain cautious for now. Markets are pricing in just a 16% probability of a rate hike at the Fed’s October 27–28 meeting, while the likelihood of an increase in December stands at around 90%, according to CME’s FedWatch Tool. Investors are also focused on next week’s Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) inflation report, a key measure closely monitored by the Fed as it seeks to bring inflation back to its 2% target. Immediate resistance can be seen at 1.3387(Higher BB ), an upside break can trigger rise towards 1.3408(50%fib).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 1.3299(38.2%fib), a break below could take the pair towards1.3257(SMA20).
AUD/USD: The Australian dollar eased on Thursday as buyers stepped back despite a sharp increase in market expectations for a Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) interest-rate hike in November.Interest-rate futures now imply a 65.1% probability of an RBA rate hike in November, up significantly from 29% on Tuesday. The repricing followed comments from RBA Assistant Governor Hauser, who indicated that Australia's inflation outlook appears materially worse, reinforcing concerns that inflationary pressures may require further policy tightening.Market participants will closely monitor RBA Governor Michele Bullock's speech on Friday and an interview with RBA Assistant Governor Hunter on Sunday for additional clues regarding the central bank's policy outlook and the likelihood of a November rate increase. Immediate resistance can be seen at 0.7037 (Higher BB), an upside break can trigger rise towards 0.70600(38.2%fib).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 0.6987(38.2%fib), a break below could take the pair towards 0.6976(SMA 20)
USD /JPY : The US dollar slipped lower against yen on Thursday after Deputy Bank of Japan Governor Ryozo Himino signalled his readiness to raise borrowing costs. s the Japanese currency gained support from hawkish remarks by BoJ Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino, who signalled that further rate increases remained an option.Bank of Japan Deputy Governor Ryozo Himino said on Wednesday that Japan’s underlying inflation was approaching the central bank’s 2% target, while financial conditions remained accommodative, signalling the possibility of further interest-rate hikes. The Bank of Japan lifted its policy rate to 1.25% last month, the highest level in 31 years, as policymakers focused on keeping underlying inflation from overshooting the central bank’s target. A majority of economists surveyed by Reuters expect the Bank of Japan to raise interest rates to 1.50% in December, following increases in June and September, signalling a faster pace of monetary tightening than the central bank’s earlier pattern of just one hike per year.Immediate resistance can be seen at 158.71(38.2%fib), an upside break can trigger rise towards 159.16(Higher BB).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 158.02(SMA 20) a break below could take the pair towards 157.00(Psychological level ).
