Gold prices fell on Monday as expectations of further Federal Reserve tightening this year and hawkish signals from other major central banks supported the US dollar.
Spot gold was down 0.6% at $4,349.94 per ?ounce by 2:30 a.m. ET (1830 GMT), after falling more than 1% to ?a session low of $4,322.19 earlier. US gold futures settled 0.9% lower ?at $4,383.90.
Oil prices eased on Monday, falling to their lowest level in 12 days as investors hoped this week’s United Nations meeting could lead to diplomatic progress in the Iran war.
The Brent crude futures November contract settled at $100.34 a barrel, down $3.53, or 3.4%. The WTI October contract that ?is expiring on Tuesday fell $4.52, or 4.51%, to $95.78 a barrel. The November contract stood at $92.47.
