EUR/USD : The euro edged lower on Friday as investors looked ahead of Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh's speech at the Jackson Hole symposium hoping forclues on his policy outlook.Market participants are keenly awaiting Warsh's debut speech in Jackson Hole, Wyoming slated for 1400 GMT, for clues on how he would approach monetary policy,inflation, and recent volatility in bond markets, although those expectations were tempered by his opposition to providing explicit forward guidance on rates.Some other Fed officials reiterated on Thursday their ongoing concerns about U.S. inflation and signalled they were open to rate hikes. Immediate resistance can be seen at 1.1680(38.2%fib), an upside break can trigger rise towards 1.1734(Higher BB).On the downside, immediate support is seen at 1.1656(Daily low), a break below could take the pair towards 1.1585(38.2%fib).
GBP/USD: Sterling eased against the dollar on Friday as markets turned cautious ahead of the speech.All eyes are on the Federal Reserve's Jackson Hole Symposium where Chair Kevin Warsh is slated to speak later in the day. Three Fed officials have already sounded the alarm about sticky inflation but the new central bank chief has resisted providing forward guidance about where interest rates are going. Core consumer prices in Tokyo rose 1.8% in August from a year earlier, government data showed, slightly above market forecasts for a 1.7% gain and creeping near the BOJ's 2% target. Gold prices held steady on Friday as investors awaited Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh’s speech at the Jackson Hole symposium for clues on the central bank’s future interest-rate path
Spot gold was little changed at $4,603.91 per ounce by 0652 GMT. It touched a more than three-month ?high of $4,696.18 on Tuesday, following the U.S. Treasury's announcement of support measures ?for long-duration bonds.
Oil prices fell on Friday and were on track to end a two-week winning streak, with Brent crude down about 5% for the week. The decline came despite Thursday’s 2.1% rebound after reports that U.S. President Donald Trump was unwilling to revive previous Iran deal terms.
Brent crude futures were down 60 cents, or 0.67%, to $89.10 a barrel at 0636 GMT. West Texas Intermediate crude futures fell 64 cents, or 0.77%, to $82.89.
